Party in the U.S.A.! Back in America in 4 days.

You know you’re a PCV in Africa when…

#15: You know dry season is finally over when you have to pee more than once a day.

I’ve had a busy May and June which explains my MIA status from blogging. Not that anyone reads this anyway. Here’s a quick recap!

Easter Weekend Paragliding – In which I floated off a cliff strapped to the chest of a man. Every little girl’s dream.

Animal Rearing Workshop – In which I hammered in 3 nails in the effort of making animal jails from wood and bamboo.

All-Vol Conference 2011 – In which 130+ volunteers got together for their usual debauchery and I became a ninja.

Training of Trainers Workshop – In which a small group of lovely PCV trainers hash out session plans for the next training group.

STARS (Students Taking Action Reaching for Success) Conference 2011 – In which selected high school students from across Ghana gathered in Kumasi for a week-long leadership workshop.

Nkwanta Camp GGLOW (Guys and Girls Leading Our World) 2011 – In which selected junior high school students from the Nkwanta area gathered for a week-long leadership workshop, Northern-Volta style.

Today – In which I did a buttload of laundry and watched a lot of Battlestar Galactica.

That’s pretty much the gist of it, though don’t let my cheap words fool you. A lot of PCVs worked really hard to put the events together and keep the operations going. Nevertheless, everyone had a ton of fun while learning and gaining new life skills.

What never fails to amaze me is collective energy. Of PCVs, of students. Of Americans, of Ghanaians. Of human beings. One of the main focuses of the student workshops is youth empowerment, especially for girls. Gender inequality is a huge cause of suffering endured by women. By empowering the students to not just be an echo but to become a voice, they are paving the way to a better future. For themselves, for their children, for Ghana.

What’s in July? AMERICA BABY! I’ll be vacaying from 6/26th until 7/28th. Oh those city lights…

Oh, and I finally chopped off 6 inches of hair.
